2.33 Promille Behind the Wheel: Drunk Driver Stopped on Kyiv–Chernihiv Highway

Patrol officers detained a 65-year-old driver in a state of severe intoxication on the M-01 highway near the village of Bobruyky. A subsequent medical examination confirmed the reading of 2.33 promille.

Yesterday at around 6:00 p.m., while patrolling the M-01 highway (Kyiv–Chernihiv–Novi Yarylovychi) near the village of Bobruyky, police officers pulled over an Opel Zafira for a traffic violation. During the stop, inspectors observed visible signs of intoxication in the 65-year-old driver. The man agreed to an on-site breath test using a Drager device, which returned a reading of 2.33 promille. The driver disputed the result, but a follow-up examination at a medical facility confirmed the level of intoxication. Officers drew up an administrative report against the man under Article 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences, which covers operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The driver was removed from behind the wheel. Police remind the public that driving under the influence poses a direct threat to the life and health of the driver as well as all other road users.
