3.87 Promille at the Wheel: Patrol Officers Stop Drunk Driver on M-01 Highway Near Chernihiv

A 42-year-old Toyota driver was stopped on the Kyiv–Chernihiv–Novi Yarylovychi highway yesterday after a Dräger breathalyser recorded a blood alcohol level of 3.87 promille — more than 19 times the legal limit.

Yesterday, at around 4:00 p.m., patrol police officers on duty along the M-01 highway (Kyiv–Chernihiv–Novi Yarylovychi) stopped a Toyota near the village of Kipti for a traffic violation. While speaking with the driver, a 42-year-old man, officers noticed visible signs of alcohol intoxication. The driver agreed to an on-the-spot breathalyser test using a Dräger device. The result came back at 3.87 promille, exceeding the legal limit by more than 19 times. Patrol officers drew up an administrative offence report against the driver under Article 130 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences, which covers operating a vehicle while intoxicated. The man was removed from the wheel and prohibited from continuing to drive. Police remind the public that alcohol and driving do not mix. Decisions to drive under the influence pose an extreme danger both to the driver and to all other road users.
