Drone debris marked with radiation hazard symbol found in Chernihiv Oblast

An electrician near Novhorod-Siverskyi discovered fragments of an unmanned aerial vehicle bearing a radiation hazard marking. Ukraine's Security Service has previously recorded radiation levels 80 times above normal at Shahed-2 strike sites.

Ivan Klymenko, an electrician with the rapid-response crew of the Novhorod-Siverskyi section of the Koriukivka district electrical network, found drone fragments next to an overhead power line in a forest near Novhorod-Siverskyi. The warhead section of the device was marked with a radiation hazard symbol. Klymenko identified the drone from official materials published by the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU). According to the agency, Russia has been using depleted-uranium munitions in R-60M missiles fitted to Shahed-2 drones. At impact sites, radiation levels have been recorded at 80 times the natural background, while gamma radiation measured on individual fragments has reached 8.3–24 microsieverts per hour, far exceeding the sanitary norm of 0.3 microsieverts per hour. Klymenko immediately reported the find to police. Authorities remind the public: if you discover suspicious drone debris, call emergency services at once, do not touch the object, and minimize the time spent near any potential source of radiation.
