On the evening of the previous day, at around 8 p.m., Chernihiv police received a call reporting a murder on Slobidska Street. The caller stated that he had killed a taxi driver. A patrol crew was immediately dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, officers found a 33-year-old man showing clear signs of alcohol intoxication. He admitted to fabricating the report: he had argued with a taxi driver who refused to take him as a passenger, and in retaliation he decided to call in a false emergency. Officers drew up an administrative report against the man under Article 183 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences — "Knowingly False Call to Emergency Services." The article provides for a fine ranging from 850 to 3,400 hryvnias. Police reminded the public that false emergency calls divert first responders from genuine emergencies and can cost someone timely assistance. Citizens are urged to contact emergency services only in cases of real need.
