Child Road Safety: Chernihiv Authorities Remind Drivers to Slow Down Near Schools

As the new school year begins, more children are on the streets. Drivers in Chernihiv are being reminded to heed warning sign 1.33 'Children' and to reduce their speed near schools and other children's facilities.

With the start of the school year, young pedestrians are appearing on the streets more frequently — walking to school, heading home after class, or meeting friends. Authorities are reminding drivers that a child can dart onto the road without warning, making extra vigilance behind the wheel essential. One of the key signals for drivers is road warning sign 1.33 'Children'. It is installed ahead of stretches where children may appear from the grounds of schools, kindergartens, health camps, and other facilities for minors. Both within and outside populated areas, the sign is duplicated and placed at least 50 metres before the start of the hazardous zone. When drivers see this sign, they are required to reduce their speed in good time, keep a close watch on the road, and be prepared for unpredictable movements by children. Children may not perceive danger the way adults do, so the responsibility for safety rests with the driver. Be attentive wherever children are nearby. A moment of haste passes; safety is what lasts.
