August 26, 2026 has been declared a Day of Mourning in Chernihiv following a missile strike carried out by the Russian Federation's armed forces against the city. According to preliminary information, two people were killed in the attack: a 4-year-old child and a 49-year-old woman. As a sign of grief for the victims, the State Flag of Ukraine with a black ribbon will be flown at half-staff on the buildings of state authorities, local self-government bodies, enterprises, institutions, and organizations. On the Day of Mourning, all entertainment and concert events are prohibited, as is the broadcasting of entertainment music in markets, retail establishments, restaurants, and on public transport. The Chernihiv City Territorial Community has extended its sincere condolences to the families and loved ones of those killed. May their memory be eternal.
