Illegal timber transportation uncovered on Symona Petliury Street in Chernihiv

Police stopped an Opel Astra with a trailer loaded with birch logs and drew up an administrative report against one of the men for violating the established rules for harvesting and transporting timber.

Yesterday, at around 11 a.m., while on patrol along Symona Petliury Street, officers noticed an Opel Astra with a trailer loaded with birch logs parked near a wooded area. Two men were standing beside the vehicle, along with a chainsaw and two axes. Patrol officers identified those involved and called in an investigative team and a forestry protection representative. In the course of establishing the circumstances, it was determined that the wood was windfall timber. Nevertheless, a forestry protection and conservation engineer drew up an administrative report against one of the men under Article 64 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offences — violation of the established procedure for the use of timber resources, the harvesting and transportation of timber, and the collection of resin. Police are urging residents to treat natural resources responsibly and to report any suspected illegal logging or the transportation of timber without proper documentation.
