As the warm season sets in, parents ventilate their homes more frequently, creating additional dangers for young children. Police are drawing attention to one common hazard: insect screens cannot bear a child's weight and create only a false sense of security. To protect children from window falls, specialists recommend the following measures: — Do not allow children to sit or play on windowsills. — Install window locks or opening limiters. — Keep furniture away from windows so children cannot use it to climb onto a sill. — Ventilate rooms through small transom windows or open plastic-frame windows in the tilt position only. — Explain to children the dangers of open windows and never leave them alone in a room with an open window. — Always close windows when leaving a room, even for just a few minutes. Police are calling on parents and guardians to maintain a safe environment for children and not to overlook these straightforward precautions.
