Police in Chernihiv Oblast have recorded another case of telephone fraud in which criminals impersonating bank employees tricked a local woman into handing over more than 37,000 hryvnias. The scheme follows a familiar pattern: fraudsters call their target, introduce themselves as bank representatives, and use various pretexts to extract sensitive payment card details — card numbers, CVV codes, and one-time SMS passwords. Once they obtain this information, the criminals gain access to the victim's accounts and transfer the funds to unknown accounts. Police are urging residents of Chernihiv and Chernihiv Oblast to follow these precautions: — Never share your bank card details with anyone over the phone. — Do not transfer money to unknown individuals at the request of a caller. — If you receive a suspicious call, end the conversation immediately and contact your bank directly using the official number on its website or the back of your card. Anyone who has fallen victim to fraudsters is asked to visit the nearest police station or call the emergency number 102.
