Power engineer with 27 years of service recalls how he survived the start of Russia's full-scale invasion

Valentyn Komornyi has worked as a distribution network electrician at the Kholmyn section of the Koriukivka District Power Network, a unit of Chernihivoblenerho JSC, for 27 years. According to the specialist himself, Russia's full-scale invasion proved to be a genuine ordeal for him and his colleagues. The section normally employs four people — a foreman and three electricians. Yet on 24 February 2022, only two of them showed up for work: the other colleagues were mobilised into the Armed Forces of Ukraine that very same day. Both of those colleagues already had combat experience dating back to 2014. Valentyn learned about the start of the enemy offensive even before leaving for work that morning. Further details about how the full-scale war began for this power engineer are available in the original source.
