Every year, the world observes Earth Hour — an international environmental initiative in which participants switch off their lights for one hour to draw attention to climate change. However, energy experts do not support the event. The reason is the sharp load fluctuations that occur when millions of consumers simultaneously turn off and then turn back on their electrical appliances. These spikes are dangerous for the power grid, particularly under crisis conditions. Specialists are therefore urging the public to avoid mass simultaneous power shutdowns.
