Man who set fire to his mother's dress convicted of domestic violence and torture in Chernihiv Oblast

A court in Chernihiv Oblast has found a local resident guilty of domestic violence and torture against his own mother. According to case materials, the man repeatedly subjected the woman to physical abuse. On one occasion he set fire to the dress she was wearing, inflicting burn injuries. The charges brought against him fell under articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine carrying a maximum sentence of up to ten years' imprisonment. The court considered all circumstances of the case and returned a guilty verdict. The exact length of the sentence is yet to be officially confirmed. Law enforcement authorities remind the public that anyone facing domestic violence should contact police immediately by dialling 102, or call the national domestic violence hotline at 1547.
